The Care Manual: How to Wash and Store Mukesh Work Without Ruining It
Read time: 3 min · Last updated: 2026-01-12
You just bought the SAROJ JAIN Ice Blue Mukesh A-line set. It’s beautiful. You look high-end.
Then, you throw it in the washing machine with your jeans.
Congratulations. You just destroyed a masterpiece.
Mukesh work is metallic. It’s delicate. It’s handmade. It doesn't belong in a machine.
If you want your investment to last for 5 years, follow this Care Manual.
1. The Wash: Handle with Grace
Never machine wash. The friction from the drum will wear down the metallic wire and can cause it to snap or lose its shine.
Hand wash only. - Use cold water. - Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent (like Ezee or Woolite). - Do not soak for more than 5 minutes. - Do not scrub. Just gently swirl the garment in the water.
2. The Drying: Shadow is Your Friend
Direct sunlight is the enemy of light blue dyes. It will fade your "Ice" into a "Dull Grey" in a week.
Air dry in the shade. - Lay the garment flat on a clean towel. - Do not wring or twist. - Let gravity do the work.
3. The Ironing: Reverse Psychology
Never put a hot iron directly on the Mukesh dots. You will "scorch" the metal and it will turn black.
Iron on the reverse side. - Turn the kurta inside out. - Use a low to medium heat setting. - Use a "press cloth" (a thin cotton fabric) between the iron and the kurta for extra safety.
4. The Storage: Breathing Space
Plastic bags cause moisture buildup. Moisture causes the metal wire to tarnish (turn dark).
Use a Cotton Bag. - Store your Ice Blue set in a breathable muslin or cotton bag. - Store it in a cool, dry place. - Do not hang for months on end; the weight of the Mukesh work can stretch the shoulders of the A-line cut. Fold it neatly instead.
FAQs
Q: Can I dry clean it? A: Yes, but only with a professional who knows how to handle handcrafted ethnic wear. Tell them specifically that it is "Mukaish/Mukesh metal work."
Q: The silver dots are turning slightly dark. What do I do? A: This is natural oxidation. Gently rub them with a soft, dry cotton cloth. Do NOT use jewelry cleaner.
Q: Can I use bleach for a stain? A: NEVER. Bleach will eat the metallic wire and ruin the blue dye. Spot clean stains immediately with a gentle soap.
Q: What if I spill wine on it at a wedding? A: Dab (don't rub) with cold water immediately. Then take it to a professional dry cleaner as soon as possible.
Q: How often should I wash it? A: Only when necessary. If you just wore it for 3 hours and didn't sweat, just air it out and store it.
Your clothes are an extension of you. Treat them well.
